Well, besides the fact that your significant other is always wrong, it could just be your perception differs from his/hers/its. Try this:
Obtain, or have your students bring into class, a batch of yellow tinted sunglasses. They go by many names. BluBlockers are the ones I use. You can usually obtain glasses like these at the dollar stores, flea markets, garage sales, and the like.
Have kids place them over their eyes in the prescribed manner. (They don't work well on the back of the head...) Now, have them observe colors around the room. If you can go outside the building to observe flower colors, it's absolutely amazing. If your TV monitor provides a blue screen while the VCR is on stop, look at it thru these glasses. The screen looks black or dark gray! Amazing. These things really DO BLOCK the blue end of the visible spectrum.

When in England with my wife years ago, I actually wore these cheap things. While sitting at a Pub near some old castle, Warwick Castle I beieve, a friend we were sitting with commented on how gorgeous all the heather was. I looked around, saw NO gorgeous anything and nonchalantly mentioned, "Yeah, and look at all those brown bushes over there". After some searching and after some considerable consternation on my part for them not knowing where I was referring to, I took the sunglasses off to be more demonstrative and quickly noticed I was referring to a few rows of PURPLE HEATHER! Duh! No wonder they accused me of having one "tea" too many....
